Wednesday, January 29, 2025 Westwood Middle School (WMS) held a demonstration for their new metal detectors.
The detectors weigh 15 pounds each and are portable. CEIA, a manufacturer of security metal detectors has a product called OPENGATE®, (that will be utilized at Westwood Middle School) that is used in the automatic screening of people with luggage, backpacks, and bags for the detection of Mass Casualty Metal Threats in high-throughput public places.
The “weapons detection system” was purchased using $21,000 of school safety money that is provided by the Tennessee Department of Education.
Westwood Middle School Principal, James Dobson, said that the school plans to hold an assembly to demonstrate the new technology to students, before the metal detectors will be put into use.
The Metal Detectors will be demonstrated at the upcoming Manchester City School (MCS) Board meeting that is scheduled for Monday, February 3, 2025 at WMS. Dr. Joey Vaughn, Director of Manchester City Schools, is the scheduled guest speaker at the Tuesday, February 4th Manchester Area Chamber of Commerce Meeting. Dr. Vaughn indicated that he will demonstrate the metal detectors there, along with other new technology that MCS hopes to use in the future.
