Thunder Radio announces schedule for 2025 Fall Hometown Sports Series Broadcasts

The Fall Hometown Sports Series is set to return for the 12th straight year on Thunder Radio WMSR, this year with a brand new sponsor for the first time – Heritage South Community Credit Union.

This will be the 12th year of Hometown Sports Series broadcasts on Thunder Radio. The first broadcast of the season will be August 7th when Westwood hosts Fayetteville City in a rematch of last year’s football DRVC title game.

Hometown Sports Series on Thunder Radio was conceived and launched by late WMSR sports director Dennis Weaver with the purpose of bringing high school volleyball and soccer, as well as middle school football, volleyball and soccer to the radio with the same enthusiasm of high school football, basketball and other major sports.

“There have been so many changes around here over the past seven months with the expansion of Peterson Media Group (PMG) to include four radio stations,” said Josh Peterson, vice president of PMG and co-owner of Thunder Radio. “But one thing that will always remain the same is our commitment to local sports in Manchester and on Thunder Radio.

“That vision that Dennis Weaver had all of those years ago is part of the very fabric of what we do today,” added Peterson. “We will continue to highlight more athletes and more games for our local sports teams – that is what we are all about.”

Heritage South Community Credit Union recently opened its Manchester location at 303 Hillsboro Blvd. and immediately jumped on the opportunity to support local sports on Manchester’s community radio station, picking up the title sponsor for the hometown sports series for 2025.

Currently, Thunder Radio is scheduled to broadcast approximately 18 Hometown Sports Series games this fall. That number does NOT include Coffee County Central High School football games every Friday night or the Wednesday night Red Raider Football Review live from Granddad’s Restaurant, which adds approximately 22 more local broadcasts through the fall. Those numbers also do not include any postseason broadcasts that may be added at a later date depending on broadcaster availability, radio station scheduling and team qualifications.

“We take the role as a true community radio station seriously,” added Peterson. “Not only will you hear these games on the radio and on the internet this fall, but you’ll see our photographer (Holly Peterson) at most games and those photos can be found on the Thunder Radio Facebook and Instagram pages.”

Fall Hometown Sports Series broadcasts will feature Peterson, Courtney Steere, Owen Whitsett and other guests behind the microphone.
