September 19-October 6th is the predicted Monarch butterfly migration peak in Middle Tennessee. 
Monarch butterflies cannot survive a long cold winter. In the fall, monarch butterflies enter reproductive diapause (do not reproduce) and begin to migrate south, where they spend the winter in roosting spots.
The monarch’s migration is driven by seasonal changes. Day length and temperature changes influence the movement of the monarch. The eastern monarchs overwinter in the mountain areas in the States of Mexico and Michoacán. Mid-September through October is the peak monarch migration time in Tennessee.
