Former Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks is no longer with the team, but an update has been given in regards to his status, according to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo.
“Titans WR Treylon Burks cleared waivers today. He reverts to the team’s IR list. From there, he’ll be released when healthy,” Garafolo announced. Burks had one year left on his four-year rookie contract, but the former Titans wideout went unclaimed, which isn’t much of a surprise.
A team could have taken a flier on Burks by claiming him now and holding his rights when he recovered from his injury, but he will be nursing the broken collarbone while on the Titans injured reserve list. Burks won’t play for the Titans again unless he signs a new contract, but that seems very unlikely at this point.
Treylon Burks’ time with the Titans is all but officially over. It’s a disappointing end for a player Tennessee drafted in the first round just a couple of years ago, hoping he’d help replace A.J. Brown. Instead, injuries and lack of production defined his short stint.
From a team standpoint, this clears the way for younger receivers and new additions to step up in the depth chart. It also signals that the Titans are fully moving on from one of their recent draft misses. While Burks still has the talent to catch on somewhere else, it won’t be in Nashville.
