Kara Wheeler wasn’t sure if college softball was going to be in the cards for her.
But the CHS senior kept working and eventually found a home at the next level.
Wheeler on Friday afternoon signed her letter of intent to play collegiate softball for the Cumberland University Phoenix in Lebanon.
“I have a cousin there – Ashley Evans,” explained Wheeler. “We were going to scrimmages and practices and the coach, she asked me to come to a practice. After that she kept texting me and eventually offered me.”
Wheeler said Cumberland plans to use her in the outfield. She admitted she wasn’t sure if college softball would be a possibility.
“I have always had to push myself and work really, really hard,” said Wheeler. “I’ve had to keep pushing myself and that allowed me to get there.”
The Lady Raider softball team will open the 2024 spring season in early March.
