“I have a cousin there – Ashley Evans,” explained Wheeler. “We were going to scrimmages and practices and the coach, she asked me to come to a practice. After that she kept texting me and eventually offered me.”

Wheeler said Cumberland plans to use her in the outfield. She admitted she wasn’t sure if college softball would be a possibility.

“I have always had to push myself and work really, really hard,” said Wheeler. “I’ve had to keep pushing myself and that allowed me to get there.”
