New School Year Brings School Zone Speed Limits Back to Manchester and Coffee County

Coffee County Schools start their new school year on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 and Manchester City Schools start back on Friday August 1, 2025.

School zone speed limits will be in full effect. Motorists are urged to note the unique speed limits set by each school.

Coffee County Sheriff Department Lieutenant Jason Dendy said that there will be Deputy Sheriff’s patrolling:

Manchester City Police Chief Bill Sipe said that his officers would be increasing their presence in the schools zones. He encouraged drivers to slow down, remain hands-free and always yielding to children in the cross-walk areas. Chief Sipe said that his department has five crossing guards to assist pedestrians in school areas:

One on highway 55 at College Street Elementary school

One on Highway 41 at College Street Elementary School

One at the Coffee County Central High School entrance on Highway 55

Two that handle the Westwood Elementary/Middle School area
