The Manchester City School Board unanimously voted on January, 8 2024 to approve Daisy-the Therapy Dog for use in the Manchester City Schools.
In a follow up to a story that Thunder Radio brought you in November of 2023, Lou Paschall, MCS School Social Worker, is Daisy’s “work mom”. Daisy lives at Paschall’s home. Lou and Daisy have completed extensive training, attending many classes for Daisy to officially be certified as a Therapy Dog. A Therapy Dog works in a 1 to many relationship, must be highly trained to be comfortable in many situations (schools, hospitals), must be certified and must be insured for any liabilities.
Daisy the therapy Dog has been the recipient of multiple grants including:
$10,000 Bonnaroo Works Grant
$5500 Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee
$2,000 Charlotte Helen Bacon Foundation
$250 Sportsmen and Businessmen Charitable Organization
The plan is for Daisy to assist students with individual and small group social skill instruction, emotional regulation, as well as literacy initiatives.
