Westwood Middle School cross country got its season off to a strong start with an impressive showing at Community High School in Unionville.
The Lady Rockets took first place overall as a team, led by a one-two finish at the front of the field. Shi Singovia-Barnett crossed the line first overall, with teammate Lyza Cashion right behind her in second place.
Westwood also received a top-10 finish from Julia Barnett, who placed eighth, while Audrey Sain crossed the line in 12th.
The Rocket boys also put together a strong performance, finishing third overall as a team.
Seventh grader Lain Jones led Westwood with a 14th-place finish, crossing the line in 11:33. Sixth grader Zion Massey followed with a 19th-place finish.
Westwood will return to Community on August 28, looking to build on a strong opening performance from both the boys and girls teams.
