The City of Tullahoma has appointed Jonathan “Nick” Kimbro as Director of the re-unified Planning, Codes and Life Safety Department at the June 24th Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting. The appointment also marks the consolidation of two previously separate city departments: the Department of Planning and Development and the Department of Safety and Codes Compliance, into a single department under unified leadership.

Kimbro brings twenty years of progressive service to the City of Tullahoma, most recently serving as Director of Safety and Codes Compliance. During his tenure, he has provided executive-level oversight across code enforcement, permitting, inspections, fire prevention, and life safety compliance, while serving as a liaison between the city and developers, engineers, contractors, and state and federal regulatory agencies. His project portfolio includes safety and building code oversight of major commercial and institutional developments across the municipality.

“Being born and raised in Tullahoma, this community has always been home, and it is deeply meaningful to continue serving the place that has given so much to me and my family,” stated Kimbro upon learning of his appointment. “Public service is a legacy I’m proud to carry forward. My mother devoted 30 years to the City of Tullahoma, and her example has been a constant source of inspiration. I began my own journey here in 2006 as a reserve firefighter, and I look forward to leading this department with the same commitment to safety, strong community relationships, and the kind of thoughtful development that allows Tullahoma to thrive for generations to come.”

City Administrator Jeff Damron said the re-consolidation and appointment of Kimbro reflects the city’s commitment to improving coordination across its development and regulatory functions.

“Nick Kimbro has demonstrated outstanding leadership, professionalism, and dedication throughout his service to the City of Tullahoma,” stated Damron. “His experience and knowledge make him the right person to lead our Planning, Codes and Life Safety Department, and I look forward to working with him as we continue improving services and supporting responsible growth in our community.”

Kimbro holds certifications from the International Code Council and the National Fire Protection Association, including ICC Plans Examiner, ICC Commercial Building Inspector, and NFPA/ICC Fire and Life Safety Inspector credentials. He is a member of the International Code Council, the National Fire Protection Association, the Tennessee Fire Chiefs Association, the Tennessee Building Officials Association, and the Tullahoma Development Advisory Committee.

The Planning, Codes and Life Safety Department is responsible for development review and zoning administration, building permitting and inspections, code enforcement, and fire and life safety compliance across the City of Tullahoma.
