ILCC thanks Coffee County community for supporting early childhood literacy

The Imagination Library of Coffee County wishes Happy Holidays to the community. The nonprofit achieved its fundraising goal for the year and successfully provided books for local children.

“We are thankful to be blessed with widespread support for our program,” said Joyce Hiebert, ILCC board member. “The nearly 3,000 children who receive their books in the mail thank you, too. ILCC makes it possible for each child to grow their own personal library. More importantly, we want children to know that being read to – and eventually reading on their own – is a fun and joyful activity. To accomplish this, we are continually raising funds for our monthly book bill, which is more than $3,000.”

ILCC achieved its goal, thanks to the help of the community.
“We thank Damron’s Restaurant in Tullahoma for hosting our annual Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast in March and the Mercantile Restaurant in Manchester for hosting our annual Pancake Breakfast event in September,” Hiebert said. “Fuel So Good in Tullahoma has also supported our program for years. Local businesses and individuals are generous with their time and support. We are thankful.”

“Our program is carried out entirely by volunteers, led by our talented and giving chairperson, Bertha Reese Smith. In her very busy schedule, Bertha always finds an opportunity to promote and explain how ILCC operates, as well as taking her turn to serve at our events and fundraisers. We are fortunate to have Bertha as a leader.”

ILCC mails specially selected, age-appropriate books to all children in Coffee County, age birth to 5, enrolled in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program at no cost to families. ILCC promotes the program and enrolls children. Through fundraisers, grants and community donations, the ILCC raises half the cost of mailing books to children enrolled, and the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation funds the other half.
