Both Coffee County Central basketball teams were in action in separate towns Thursday – the Lady Raiders in Tullahoma at the Jeff Taylor Christmas Classic and the Raiders at the Blackman Outback Classic.
Lady Raiders 49, Christ Presbyterian Academy Lions 39
Coffee County shook off a pesky CPA team Thursday and used huge days from Natalie Barnes and Olivia Vinson to leave with a 49-39 win in their only appearance in Tullahoma’s Jeff Taylor Christmas Classic.
CPA stayed on Coffee County’s heels all game. The Lions went on a 12-4 run to close the third quarter and take what was a 10 point Lay Raider lead down to 2.
But the Lions never took the lead in the second half as Coffee County handled business in the fourth quarter. Natalie Barnes led the Lady Raiders with 20 points, followed closely by Olivia Vinson’s 19.
Coffee County won the turnover battle 16-2 and went 17-of-23 at the charity stripe compared to CPA’s 1-of-1.
The win makes the Lady Raiders 13-2 on the season. They will take a few days off before heading to Lenoir City for a post-Christmas tournament that tips off on Dec. 27.
CHS Red Raider boys 42, Kirkwood 69
The Red Raider boys saw their three game winning streak snapped by Kirkwood Thursday afternoon at Blackman High School.
The Raiders were down 38-21 by halftime and never were able to threaten Kirkwood.
Cooper Reed led the Raiders with 10 points in the loss, dropping CHS to 6-7 on the year.
The Raiders will play at 1:30 p.m. Friday against Dyersburg in the Tullahoma Jeff Taylor Classic. That game will be broadcast live on Thunder Radio 107.9 FM, 1320 AM, 106.7 FM, Manchester GO App and thunder1320.com.
