Ellen Brown Young

Ellen Brown Young, 94, of Manchester, passed from this life on December 13, 2023 at Autumn Oaks Assisted Living in Manchester, attended by family.

A native of Jackson County, TN, she spent the majority of her life in Nashville, moving to Manchester in 2005 to be closer to her family. After graduating Smith County High School, she attended Nashville Business College for a time before entering the workforce as a medical office assistant. She eventually left the workforce to concentrate on raising her two daughters and son. She lovingly contributed to the care of her grandchildren as well.

Ellen was a dedicated Cumberland Presbyterian attending Woodbine Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Nashville. There she taught Sunday School for over 30 years, served as a deacon, and sang in the choir. After moving to Manchester, she attended the First United Methodist Church where she found great fellowship. An avid bowler, she participated in leagues in Nashville for over thirty years, where she volunteered as bookkeeper and made several life long friends. She was also a tireless volunteer, working in the libraries of the elementary schools her children and grandchildren attended, both in Nashville and Coffee County.

Ellen is preceded in death by her parents Monroe Harrison and Eula Arminda (Stockton) Brown; husband Charles Reeves Young, Jr.; brothers Grady (Judy) Brown and John (Frances) Brown; sisters Thelma (Paul) Blood and Ruth Brown; and son-in-law Jerry Gibbs.

She is survived by daughters Barbara Gibbs of Manchester and Diane (Greg) Jones of Nashville; son David (Lisa) Young of Manchester; grandchildren Joy Naifeh (Tiffany Dembowski), Kohl Young, Karson Young, Mark Naifeh (Whitney Flatt), Alexis Miller, and Sam (Katie) Miller; great grandchild Mitchell Noah Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be David Young, Kohl Young, Joy Naifeh, Mark Naifeh, Greg Jones, and Sam Miller. Honorary pallbearers are John Minor and David Brown.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 18, 2023, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Central Funeral Home in Manchester, TN. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 11:00am in the chapel of Central Funeral Home with Bob Jared officiating. A private family burial will be held after the funeral Tuesday at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens in Nashville, TN.
