Eleanor Rolman Nation, a native of Lynchburg, passed this life on Thursday,
July 16, 2020 in Tampa, FL at the age of 85. Private family graveside
services are scheduled in Lynchburg. A Memorial Service will be scheduled
in the fall.
Mrs. Nation was the daughter of the late Edward and Annie Martin. She was
raised in Lynchburg where her parents owned the Five and Dime on the
square. She earned B.S. and M.A. degrees in music education from Middle
Tennessee State University and did summer studies at the University of
Michigan. However, she was an avid Tennessee Vols football fan.
She retired after 30 years as a choral music educator in the Huntsville
City Schools. She taught at Davis Hills Junior High and Johnson High
School during her career and directed mixed, Ladies’ and Men’s choruses, as
well as numerous ensembles. All were recognized for their performance of
quality choral literature and consistently earned many awards. In addition,
Mrs. Nation served as the youth choir director at First Presbyterian and
Lakewood United Methodist churches and then became the adult choir director
at Holmes United Methodist Church in Huntsville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Karen
Rolman Lee.
She is survived by son, Michael Rolman and his wife, Kim of Lutz, FL;
grandson, Mason Rolman; daughter, Vickie Rolman Chapman and her husband,
Kevin of Frederick, MD and sister, Phyllis Martin Davis and her husband,
Mack of Jackson, GA.
