Formed in late 2020 in honor of WMSR Radio Sports Director and voice of Coffee County athletics Dennis Weaver, the Dream for Weave Foundation aims to help athletes in Coffee County.

Over the four three years of existence, the foundation has contributed over $75,000 in the form of athletic scholarships and assistance to athletes who needed help purchasing equipment or financing required camps and fees to play the sports they desire.

In 2022, in conjunction with Thunder Radio, the foundation hosted the first ever Thundies Sports Awards, recognizing over 30 athletes in the Coffee County Community for their excellence in athletics and giving out $13,000 in hard-earned scholarships to athletes on their way to college and/or technical school after graduating from Central High School. The 2023 Thundies grew to include over 40 athletes and $23,000 in scholarships. Then in 2024, the Thundies awarded $36,000 in scholarships to graduating Coffee County Athletes (click here to read more)!

The foundation is fueled by sponsorships and donations from individuals who care about athletics in our community. All money raised goes directly into the foundation coffers and is used for assisting athletes in need and for scholarship funding. Foundation expenses are minimal and there are no paid positions within our organization – strictly volunteers.

Dennis Weaver was a longtime broadcaster for WMSR Thunder Radio and a longtime coach, helping to build the CHS Lady Raider softball program from a one-win team in the early 1990s to a state powerhouse.

His commitment to all athletes led to the expansion of Thunder Radio’s sports coverage to include broadcasts of high school soccer and volleyball, as well as middle school sports on the radio that included football, soccer, basketball, volleyball , baseball and softball. He launched the weekly Coffee Coaches Show that airs every Saturday at 10 a.m. (and has continued after his passing) that shines a spotlight on all athletes and coaches in the Coffee County Community. Dennis passed away in July of 2020 after complications from a routine surgery. He was 58 years old. So you might say, sports was a passion for Weave and continues to be a passion for us. He loved local athletes and that love continues today through his foundation.

How Can My Child Apply for a Scholarship?

Coffee County Central senior athletes (and homeschool athletes who play for Coffee County Central) can apply for scholarships during the second semester of their senior year. Students should keep an eye out at and Thunder Radio social channels, as well as on air at 107.9 FM, 1320 AM for information for the application window – which usually opens in January into early February. Students can also get information from the Student Resource Center (guidance office) at the school or their coach.

How can someone get financial assistance for athletics?

Simply fill out the form below to contact us regarding financial assistance. The Dream for Weave Foundation understands that it is hard to ask for help. Oftentimes parents / guardians will do everything possible to ensure their child has the gear and funds necessary to play their sports. But no one is immune to hard times and we are here to help. When we do provide assistance, it is done with no fanfare or publicity. We will provide monetary assistance, purchase necessary gear, etc. without the fear of embarrassment. We do not want that publicity, we just want athletes to be in the game.
