In December of 2024, Coffee County had it’s first meeting for the Opioid Abatement Fund Disbursement Committee.
Coffee County has received $288,759.69 so far and will in total receive nearly one million dollars in funding from lawsuits won by the State of Tennessee related to the opioid crisis.
All 95 counties will receive at least one annual payment from the Opioid Abatement Trust Fund during Quarter 1 of each calendar year.
According to Coffee County Mayor, Dennis Hunt, the funds are required to be spent to either fix problems caused by the opioid crisis or to prevent future problems from opioid use.
The Opioid Abatement Fund Disbursement Committee made recommendations to the Commission for funding. And at the April 8, 2025 full County Commission Meeting, the first of the funds to be distributed was voted on by the Commission.
The following entities were awarded funds:
Coffee County Collaborative Coalition is set to recieve $33,375 April15-June 30, 2025 and then $160,200 July 1, 2025-June 30, 2026.
14th Public Defenders Office is set to receive $23, 652 April 15 to June 30, 2025 and then $136,464 July 1, 2025-June 30, 2026.
Chase Away Fentynal is set to recieve $14,754 April 15 to June 30, 2025 and then $70,822 July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026.
Recovery is the New High is set to receive $6,250 April 15 to June 30, 2025 and then $30,000 July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026.
