In a marathon session at the Coffee County Administrative Plaza on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 discussions about Planning Commission Zoning Resolution Amendments and the 180 day proposed moratorium on Major Subdivision Plat Reviews encompassed a 5PM public hearing and concluded with the full Coffee County Commission Meeting that last until 9:30PM.
The public hearing was for items on the agenda for consideration & approval, including:
Zoning Resolution Amendment;
Solar Farm requirements
Zoning Resolution Amendment;
Major Subdivision requirements
Citizens could (and did) sign up to speak during the public comment section of the Commission Meeting about the 180 day proposed moratorium on Major Subdivision Plat Reviews.
Many Coffee County Commissioners made statements during the discussion period about the 180 day proposed moratorium on Major Subdivision Plat Reviews. Commissioner Tim Brown (District 4) made a failed motion to amend the proposal to a 90 day moratorium and to remove the restriction of the 5 acre minimum from the language of the resolution. Commissioner Benton Brown (District 2) made a failed motion to postpone the vote on the moratorium for 90 days.
Commissioner Lynn Sebourn (District 9), who is also the Mayor of Tullahoma, said that he was not speaking as the Mayor of Tullahoma, but as a Commissioner and had this to say:
Commissioner Missy Deford (District 5) made a motion (that failed to have a second) to amend the time of the moratorium to 90 days.
Commissioner Dowe Jones (District 1) suggested that if the planning commission requested the 180 days, to respect their request:
Ultimately, the moratorium passed with a vote of 10-8.
