Coffee County had two chances in the final seconds to tie or beat Dyersburg, but the Raiders couldn’t come up with a bucket and fell to the Trojans 61-60 in the Jeff Taylor Christmas Classic Friday afternoon in Tullahoma – a game you heard live on Thunder Radio.
The Raiders had possession with 11.4 seconds to play down by 2 and turned the ball over. Dyersburg missed two free-throws, giving Coffee County one last chance with 6 seconds on the clock. Junior Courtland Farrar was fouled on a three-pointer at the buzzer – but Farrar missed the first two of his three free throws to end the game.
The Raiders and the Trojans went back and forth all afternoon – with neither team leading by more than 7. The Raiders fell behind 47-40 late in the third before taking off on a 7-0 run to close the gap.
Jackson Shemwell turned in a banner day for the Raiders with 20 points, followed by Cooper Reed with 15 and Jayden Carter with 12.
But Coffee County had no answers for Ace Mahaffey, who piled up 30 points on the afternoon.
The loss drops Coffee County to 6-8 on the season. The Raiders will be off until Dec. 27 when they travel to Scottsboro for a post-Christmas tournament.
