BASKETBALL: Raiders complete season sweep of Franklin County

Coffee County’s Red Raider boys basketball team is heating up at the right time.

The Raiders got 24 points from Cooper Reed Thursday night on their way to a 57-48 road win over Franklin County. It marks the third straight win for CHS and puts them at 9-9 on the season with district play slated to begin Tuesday.

After shaking off some first quarter defensive breakdowns, the Raiders took the lead early in the second quarter and never gave it up.

The Rebels did make a couple of big runs – cutting a 29-19 Raider lead down to 33-31 at one point and then a 52-36 lead with 1:30 to play shrunk to 52-46. But the Raiders never gave up the lead.

Reed led the way with 24 points – he had 20 with 4:27 to play in the third quarter. Jackson Shemwell pitched in 11 and Cayden Trail had 10 off the bench. Courtland Farrar produced 7 and Jaiden Warren 3.

The Raiders were solid at the free-throw line, dropping in 13-of-15.

The Raiders will now open district play when Shelbyville comes to Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gymnasium in Manchester Tuesday, Jan. 9. Girls will tip off at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.
