Coffee County Middle’s Lady Raiders built a big 21 point lead late in the third and held on for a 34-20 win over Warren County in the semi-finals of the Area 6 Tournament Wednesday night in Manchester.
The win puts Coffee County (21-0) into the championship at 7 p.m. Thursday night at CMS and guarantees a trip to the sectional at Stewarts Creek.
For the most part, CMS dominated – leading 27-6 with 2:42 to play in the third quarter. Warren County had only one field goal until late in the third. The Lady Pioneers cut the deficit to 12 with 2:30 to play but never got any closer.
Adalyn Clark led all scorers with 14 points. Jenslee Nogodula added 7 and Kinsley Pruitt 6.
The Raider boys didn’t have as much luck. CMS turned the ball over 23 times in a 44-29 loss to top-seeded Whitthorne Wednesday night.
The Tigers led 24-7 by halftime and 40-16 after three quarters before substituting liberally.
Rylan Abellana led the Raiders with 8 points and Jaxon Pruitt added 7.
The loss drops the Raiders into the consolation game against Lewisburg at 6 p.m. Friday. That is a must-win game to advance to the sectional tournament.
